On occasion life throws something decent your way.
I can't say that it happens a lot, or as much as it should, but there are fleeting moments of happiness.
Thankfully for me one of those moments was this weekend.
After 6 long months I finally got to go on my first heavy metal cruise!
Wrapped.
It's hard to not be aware of my location at the time of buying these tickets and all that has occurred since, it's a grim walk down memory lane that's for sure, but when I get past that thought I'm met with a new one - a positive one. Yay for me.
I arrived at the docks way earlier than I needed to, but I've been dreaming about missing the boarding time all week so I'm not disappointed.
My first impressions of the boat were great.
A downstairs DJ and party room.
Upstairs is the stage and live performance area with merch desks.
The bathroom is tiny though and I know that this is going to be an issue later on after the drinks have been flowing.
To my surprise, that didn't really eventuate though, so kudos to that.
Free pizza provided was an added bonus.
Fuck I love pizza. Lol.
The night opens up with Hybrid Nightmares performing Litany Of The Astral Servant and I'll always remember that feeling of happiness as the boat starts to move and we begin our voyage into Port Phillip Bay with live music ringing out.
It was cool.
As usual I'm just lone wolfing it and it can be a bit disheartening, but I was really pleased with where I was and what I was taking part in, another sense of contentment, I guess.
We got a mini mosh pit going which was an achievement in itself considering the confined space.
One bloke is wearing a dolphin hat...
...which was pretty funny.
He looked like a goose.
Reminded me of when I went to see Viscera Infest on my birthday and the lead vocalist from Satanic Dog Cunts was wearing a big top hat and feather as they began their set to the tune of Lowrider by WAR. (If you're not familiar with the song, look it up.)
Hilarious.
It always makes me smile to have such heavy music and a rough looking crowd that is actually full of love and laughter.
We're a unique bunch and we don't mind poking fun at ourselves.
The other 3 bands that played on the cruise were Harlot, Evocatus and Freedom Of Fear.
Werewolves were meant to headline but didn't for some reason and I don't know why. That was a bit sucky but all's not lost.
Freedom Of Fear are one of my new favorite bands, their most recent album is killer.
Plus, they got a chick vocalist that plays on the whole 'witchy' theme, and I be digging that.
I even slipped her my number at the end of the night, but I don't think she'll be calling.
I've completely lost touch when it comes to meeting people.
The night wraps up with everyone downstairs in the DJ party room absolutely going ham to Rammstein and other renowned anthems from the biggest bands.
I'll always remember everyone singing the words to Metallica's Master Of Puppets at the top of their lungs before we returned to port and disembarked the boat.
All in all, I had a great time, and I'm pleased that I went.
Loneliness still gets the better of me a lot more than I'd like it to though, it's difficult to not notice all the couples and groups of friends and stuff, coz I want that.
It is depressing to always be on the outside.
But hey, this is my "plan," and my "plan" involves long term isolation apparently...
yay for me.
